Meggan Watterson is a feminist theologian with a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University and a master of theological studies from Harvard Divinity School. She is the author of the Wall Street Journal bestseller Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel, & The Christianity We Haven't Tried Yet, and of Reveal: A Sacred Manual for Getting Spiritually Naked (Hay House, 2013). She also created The Mary Magdalene Oracle, a way to bring the teachings of Mary's gospel into a daily spiritual practice.
Much of her life has gone into gathering stories of the Divine Feminine. Before each of her two degrees she made a pilgrimage to sacred sites in Europe, the first with a group and the second on her own. Through figures such as Mary Magdalene, the Black Madonna, Kali Ma and Green Tara, she began to see a red thread running through the world's mystics: the way to the Divine is to go within. In divinity school she found early Christian writings, including the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and the Pistis Sophia, that place the Divine inside us and center women.
She founded The House of Mary Magdalene, a spiritual community of radical love. Members study early Christian scripture and practice the soul-voice meditation, an inward listening done together. They also practice telling the truth about their lives. Red, the color associated with Mary Magdalene and the heart, runs through the community's symbols. Meggan also leads retreats, and past participants describe her as steady, humorous, empathetic and real. She is the mother of a son, Shai.
