About This Event

Description

Awakening to Enough is a weekend meditation retreat at Drala Mountain Center in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, exploring the dharma of money through Buddhist teachings, mindfulness practice and practical financial wisdom. It is open to anyone curious about their relationship to money, whether they are in debt, building a career, preparing for retirement or managing significant wealth. It is led by Grace Fisher and Spencer Sherman, the creator of the Dharma of Money.

The premise is that money can be one of the most revealing classrooms on the spiritual path. Together you look at the beliefs, emotions, habits and fears that shape how you earn, spend, save and give, with themes of enoughness, generosity, values-based living and financial well-being.

What to Expect

The retreat runs over a weekend, from a Friday afternoon arrival to a Sunday departure at 12:30 PM. Check-in is at the Guest Services Cabin between 2:00 and 5:00 PM, followed by an opening session and orientation.

Saturday is the heart of the retreat. It begins with morning meditation and dharma teachings, followed by small group discussions on money and enoughness. The afternoon is free for hiking or rest, and the day closes with an evening reflection and practice.

Sunday brings morning meditation and final teachings, then an integration discussion and a closing circle.

The days combine periods of silent meditation, teachings, reflection and conversation. The aim is to leave with contemplative tools for everyday financial decisions, a clearer personal definition of "enough," and a way of relating to money rooted in awareness rather than scarcity, fear or conditioned habit. "Enough" is treated as an inquiry rather than a number, and the group explores both the math and the mindset of it.

Conversation takes place in a confidential, respectful setting. You are invited, but never required, to share, and no one is asked to disclose financial details. This is not financial counseling or professional financial advice.

About Grace Fisher

Grace Fisher is a psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with more than 25 years of meditation practice, primarily in the Theravadan tradition. She completed Spirit Rock's Community Dharma Leaders Training program and has taught there for over twenty years, including programs for teens, parents, and the weekly Thursday Women's Sangha. Her dharma talk "Women, Money and the Dharma" is available to hear ahead of the retreat.

About Spencer Sherman

Spencer Sherman is a longtime mindfulness practitioner and teacher, and the creator of the Dharma of Money. He is the founding CEO of Abacus, a firm Barron's called the Buddhist financial advisor. He is the author of The Cure for Money Madness and teaches in New York University's Inner MBA program. He has also spoken about the subject on the 10% Happier Podcast, in an interview titled "The Dharma of Money."

The Setting

Drala Mountain Center is in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, and the grounds are open to retreatants for walking and rest between sessions. Two nights of lodging are part of the retreat, and you choose a room type when you register:

- Dormitory: gender-segregated rooms with beds for up to seven or eight people, with shared bathrooms and showers down the hall.

- Single or double room: a private room with a dresser, closet and attached three-quarter bathroom with toilet, sink and shower.

Before You Go

No background in meditation or Buddhism is needed, and the teachings are offered in an accessible, practical way. The retreat is held in English. Tuition is offered on a tiered scale (scholarship, standard and sponsor), and lodging is arranged at checkout. Guided hikes and other afternoon activities are not part of the program, so the free time is yours to use as you wish.
