The Music of Ajeet: Sound, Sacred Texture, and Lineage

The Sound Itself

Ajeet's music begins in the folk traditions of her Irish background and drifts toward mystical, meditative soundscapes. The clearest picture of its texture comes from her live album Voices Like Rain, recorded on her 2019 European tour: layered harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, hand percussion and Celtic harp. The harmonies are the first thing to notice. Voices stack and overlap rather than simply double the lead, so a chorus can feel like weather moving through a room. The guitars give the songs a plucked, grounded floor, the electric guitar adds a wash of color above it, and the hand percussion keeps time without pushing. The harp supplies the brightest, most liquid note in the arrangement.

She is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, which means the shape of a recording is often her own decision as well as her own performance. Many of her songs carry layers of folklore, dream images and myth. She has said she has always loved story, especially the stories cultures pass down, and that instinct makes the songs feel narrated as much as sung.

The Tradition She Sings In

Her work is best described by its streams rather than by a school. One stream is Irish folk. The other is mantra. Her first two albums were built around it: Sacred Waters (2013) holds music for Kundalini Yoga meditations, and At The Temple Door (2014) weaves songs and mantras together. Her record label's page for Darshan (2015) names her Ajeet Kaur. She now records and tours simply as Ajeet.

From there the catalog widens. Darshan was recorded in Bali. Haseya (2016) takes its title from the Diné for "she rises." Shuniya and Indigo Sea followed in 2018, then the LUNAR EP (2020), whose four songs follow the phases of the moon. Let It Breathe arrived in 2022, and Slánú in October 2026. Its track list, with titles such as "Healing Song," "Para la Tierra," "Viento" and "Para Sanar," shows English and Spanish side by side. Her band brings together musicians from Spain, Ireland and the United States.

Her Signature Contribution

Her particular contribution is the meeting point itself: a mantra-based practice carried by the instruments and storytelling habits of Irish folk. Where much devotional music is organized around call-and-response repetition, her songs often lean on narrative, dream imagery and myth, with the harp and layered voices giving the material a Celtic cast. The result sits between a meditation record and a folk album, and it can be heard either way. She also works as a producer, and her home studio in Ireland, where she moved back in 2020, is open to artists and friends. There she produced and mixed Here, an EP by her friend and collaborator Sukhmani.

The People Around the Music

Collaboration runs through the work. On At The Temple Door, Todd Boston's guitar carries the songs and Snatam Kaur, a prominent Kundalini yoga mantra singer, adds harmonies. Haseya was produced by Maneesh de Moor and includes guests such as Trevor Hall and Peia. Her collaborators also include Rising Appalachia and Seamus Egan.

The most sustained partnership is with the harpist and vocalist Aisling Urwin, who appears on "Ocean's Lullaby" from Indigo Sea (2018), toured Europe with the band in 2019 and plays harp on Let It Breathe. Together they started the project Woven Kin, heard on the 2020 single "When She Rises." Urwin joins her again, with Rachel Sermanni, on "Dreaming" from Slánú. Her band has also included Raffa Martinez and Ezra Landis.

A First-Listen Guide

A good entry point is Voices Like Rain, since it shows the full band on stage, each song recorded at a different venue of the 2019 tour: harmonies, both guitars, percussion and harp. If you want the mantra side in its purest form, go to Sacred Waters or At The Temple Door. For the newest work, start with Slánú, and note the bilingual song titles.

Some things may surprise you. Expect less of the long, hypnotic repetition that some kirtan listeners anticipate, and more melody, story and arrangement. The electric guitar may be unexpected in a devotional context. And the folk influence is real: these are songs with narrative bones, not only chants set to a drone.

Where She Sits in the Wider Landscape

In the conscious-music world, Ajeet occupies a crossroads. Her mantra work and her collaborations with Snatam Kaur and Trevor Hall connect her to the yoga and devotional community, while Rising Appalachia and Seamus Egan point toward folk and roots traditions. She also leads retreats, including the Dreaming Retreat at Dromgarriff in County Cork and the Many Moons Retreat in Mahahual, Mexico, and her online course Many Moons for women ran its first cycle in 2023 with almost 100 participants. Her calendar includes an April 2027 appearance in Oprah Winfrey's AHA at Sphere in Las Vegas and a run of European concerts in May 2027. Listeners who want devotional music with a songwriter's sense of story, and folk music with a contemplative pulse, will find that her catalog serves both.
