From The Water by Ajeet: A Listening Guide

From The Water arrives as a two-track single, released on November 20, 2025. It is small in size, and that shapes how it should be heard. This guide treats it as a compact piece of a much larger body of work, and as a doorway into where Ajeet's music has been heading.

Where This Sits in Ajeet's Arc

Ajeet's recordings begin with mantra. Sacred Waters (2013) holds music for Kundalini Yoga meditations, and At The Temple Door (2014) weaves songs and mantras with harmonies from Snatam Kaur. From there the path widens: Darshan was recorded in Bali, Haseya took its title from the Diné for "she rises," and Shuniya and Indigo Sea followed in 2018, then the LUNAR EP in 2020, whose four songs trace the phases of the moon. In 2020 she moved back to Ireland and began working from her home studio.

From The Water belongs to that Irish chapter. It also shares its name with a song on Slánú, the album that follows it. Read in that light, the single feels like an early look at themes she was already gathering: water, tenderness, healing, return. Water has run through her catalog since Sacred Waters, so the title reads less like a new idea and more like a thread she keeps picking up.

Sonic Character

Ajeet's music moves from traditional Irish folk toward mystical, meditative soundscapes, and many of her songs carry layers of folklore, dream images and myth. Her live album Voices Like Rain gives a useful sense of her palette: layered harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, hand percussion and Celtic harp. Expect that sensibility here, with voice at the center and an unhurried pace that leaves room between phrases.

The best approach is to listen for how the voice is placed, how much space surrounds it, and whether harmony or a single line carries the weight. Her band draws on musicians from Spain, Ireland and the United States, with the harpist and vocalist Aisling Urwin a longtime member.

The Tracks Worth Naming

With only two tracks, the title song is the clear anchor, and the second is "Viento," first released as a single that October.

"From The Water." This is the piece to start with and return to. What makes it land is its place in her story: a song that carries the water imagery of her earliest mantra records into the mature, Ireland-based writing that followed. It also reappears on Slánú, a record whose songs include Healing Song, Soften and only you know where peace is. That company suggests the mood to listen for, which is softening and restoration rather than drama. Notice whether the song feels like an invocation, a lullaby or a story. Her gift has always been blurring those lines.

"Viento." The second track is a companion and a contrast: a Spanish-language prayer to the wind, after a song about water. Let the pair play straight through and notice how the second answers the first.

Its Place in the Tradition

Ajeet's roots in devotional music are real but not singular. Her early albums sit in the Kundalini Yoga mantra world, and her collaborators have included Snatam Kaur and Trevor Hall. Yet her current writing leans just as heavily on Irish folk memory, with its story, myth and dream imagery. From The Water sits where those streams meet: devotional in feeling, meditative in pacing, and rooted in folk song's habit of handing stories down. It sits comfortably beside ambient and world music, but its heart is the sung voice.

Who It Lands Hardest For

This single is for listeners who already carry a quiet practice, whether yoga, meditation, walking or simply sitting with tea at the end of the day. It suits anyone moving through a tender season: grief easing, a change of home, a return to something familiar. Longtime followers will hear a continuation of her themes. Newcomers get a brief, low-pressure introduction to her voice before exploring the deeper catalog.

How to Listen Closely

Choose an evening and a quiet room. Use headphones so the layers of voice and space stay clear. Play both tracks once without doing anything else, then play the title track a second time with your eyes closed. If you keep a ritual, such as a candle, a few minutes of breathwork or journaling, let this be its soundtrack. Because the single is short, you can repeat it without effort, and repetition is where music like this opens up.

If it speaks to you, continue on to Slánú, where the title song appears among its fellow pieces.
