Lisa Dunn is a singer and songwriter who has been around music all her life. Classical, blues, R&B, folk, jazz, pop and rock were all played in the family home, and she loved reading lyrics inside album sleeves and singing along to 8-tracks on long drives to the interior of BC.
Extreme shyness kept her from performing publicly until she sang in a Philadelphia gospel choir in her 20s, where she began to find her voice. Back in Canada, she joined Coastal Sound Music while studying for her Bachelor of Education, and sang her first lead solos with a smaller a cappella group. She later sang with City Soul Choir from 2015 to 2018.
In 2011 she began sitting in at venues around town, including The Jazz Cellar. Hell's Gate Blues Band formed in 2012, followed by The Freakin' Groovies and the acoustic band Blue Mistral. She also performs as The Lisa Dunn Band and in the duo Dunn Talking with Ray Roper, and sings with other artists at charity gigs.
Her albums include Sweet Freedom (2012) and By Request (2015). Since 2019 she has focused on writing original music for sync licensing, with a catalogue of over 100 songs and placements on television. She is available for live bookings and vocal recording sessions.
Worth Knowing
Lisa Dunn is a singer and songwriter whose path runs from the choir loft to the bandstand and now to the sync desk. She grew up in a house where classical, blues, R&B, folk, jazz, pop and rock were all played, and as a child she sang along to 8-tracks on long drives to the interior of British Columbia. Extreme shyness kept her from performing publicly until she sang with a Philadelphia gospel choir in her 20s, which is where her voice was largely found. Back in Canada she sang with Coastal Sound Music while studying for her Bachelor of Education, took her first lead solos with a smaller a cappella group, and later sang with City Soul Choir from 2015 to 2018. Since 2019 her main body of work has been original songs written for sync licensing, with a catalogue of over 100 songs and placements on television. The reason listeners pay attention is that the arc is unusually legible: a shy singer, a choir apprenticeship, a decade fronting several bands, then a songwriting catalogue built for placement. Her Spotify footprint is still small, so most interest comes from people who find her through the bands or the catalogue directly.
